A good training gym in Sacramento, California, is popular among CrossFitters, powerlifters, bodybuilders and the like. In a little just over ten years, it attained its mecca-like status. Not because it has special machines or boasts of rocket science training technique. Its secret? Its founder Mark Bell.
Doing more than teach aspiring lifters, Bell, an all-time great in the world of competitive powerlifting is the founder of Super Training. A true evangelist of this craft, he can make any lifter with any goal better in just a snap by merely talking to them.
What does he actually say?
Strong Community Is Everything
“The only way to reach your potential is to be in an environment where everyone has the same goal: to get better,” says Bell. “You cannot contribute the level of effort needed to achieve greatness when 30 people behind you are riding exercise bikes and watching TV,” he adds.
Enrolling in a gym is not the exact message here. If being alone in your garage and working with a limited number of equipment makes you train seriously, well and good. Stick to this.
Doling out more encouragement, “When you start out, it could take you five months to add even 5 pounds to your dead lift. When you get stronger, adding that much more weight could take two years.”
